SafeWork SA: LEARNING TO MAKE OUR WORKING LIVES SAFER AND FAIRER
Source: SafeWork SA
Safe Work Week, from Monday 22 to Friday 26 October 2012, is the
opportunity for South Australians to
learn more about improving work health and safety outcomes with more than
80 free information
sessions available for people to attend.
Tom Phillips, Presiding Member of the SafeWork SA Advisory Committee, said
the free workshops will
provide 'how to' information across a broad range of workplace health and
safety topics.
"This year we have more speakers and information sessions due to the
continued interest and success
of South Australia's major workplace health and safety event," Mr Phillips
said.
"There is something for everyone with sessions about workplace bullying,
noise protection, the
challenges associated with an ageing workforce, conveyor safety to risk
management and more.
People can simply book online at www.safework.sa.gov.au/sw2012 to learn
more about how to make our
working lives safer, fairer and more productive.
A number of sessions this year will also explain the proposed Work Health
and Safety laws, already in
place in several other states and currently before the South Australian
Parliament.
A highlight of the week is the ever-popular Mock OHS Dispute, which follows
a workplace safety case
from a work setting through to its conclusion in an Industrial Court Mock
Trial.
"This week-long event is part of the national focus on work safety
encouraging people to get involved,
concentrate on safety and take responsibility in their workplace to help
reduce injury, death and disease.
"People have a tendency to think of workplace safety when something goes
wrong, but we want people
to think ahead and not wait for disaster to strike. Education is key to
improving our work safety status,"
Mr Phillips said.
"With forethought and planning workplace hazards can be identified and
steps taken to reduce the risk,
and even better if everyone adopts a safety-mindset.
"Safe Work Week 2012 informs, empowers and inspires people to make
workplaces safer, delivering
benefits to many people many times over," Mr Phillips said.
The week concludes with the presentation of the Safe Work Awards at the
Adelaide Convention Centre
on Friday, 26 October 2012.
